The North of Tyne Combined Authority is delivering the £2.3m North East Energy for Growth Accelerator Programme in partnership with local authorities across the North East to accelerate low carbon energy projects. The programme will catalyse the North East’s decarbonisation journey, unlocking jobs and leveraging investment into the region. Launched in 2020, the programme will deliver funding support to local authorities until 2025 to commission specialist expertise.

The approach taken by the programme is centred upon accelerating a project pipeline in the North East, spanning key low carbon areas such as heat networks, mine water energy, public estate building retrofit and renewable energy deployment, expecting to progress up to 10 projects per year.

The North East Energy for Growth Accelerator has supported a significant pipeline of heat networks projects across the North East which were  showcased across two events in September 2022. These events brought people together from the heat networks industry, the public sector and from regional political leadership and academia to discuss how we can accelerate the delivery of the UK’s first low carbon heat cluster here in the North East.
