BOOST is a housing-led employability project delivered by some of the region’s largest housing providers.

The project is led by Your Homes Newcastle with North Tyneside Council, Karbon Homes, Tyne Housing and Bernicia as delivery partners. The project will be delivered in Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland.

It utilises the unique access, reach and relationships that housing providers have, to provide support and opportunities for socially excluded economically inactive and unemployed residents to develop their skills and progress towards, and into, employment.

The project is delivered in three stages:

  • Stage 1 – engagement. Each of the seven housing providers utilise their reach and trusted relationship with their tenants to identify those who are unemployed and economically inactive and who could benefit from this package of support.
  • Stage 2 – support. Once a resident is registered onto BOOST, a dedicated keyworker supports and guides them through an action focused employability journey which is flexible to each person’s individual needs, circumstances and aspirations. Support available includes confidence building, life skills development, help with job search, digital support and financial advice.
  • Stage 3 – progression. For those tenants who become ready for work, the partnership is well placed to facilitate a range of further opportunities. This includes placement schemes and work opportunities with regional employers.

Participants on the BOOST project can also benefit from a customer support fund to help with costs such as travel expenses and interview clothing, helping to break down barriers that are hindering a resident’s ability to progress.

This project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and is delivered until March 2025.
