The North of Tyne Combined Authority provide £800,000 as part of the £1.34m Business Energy Saving Team (BEST) project.

Delivered by Newcastle City Council between February 2023 – January 2025 on behalf of the whole North of Tyne region, BEST is supporting SMEs and Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprises (VCSEs) to reduce energy costs and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, thereby increasing business resilience and adaptive capacity to achieve net zero targets and support economic growth.

To do this, BEST is:

  • Providing business, financial, legal and commercial advice to reduce carbon emissions and utility costs.
  • Providing grant funding to enable the installation of energy efficiency measures and renewable energy.

In parallel, BEST is facilitating growth of the retrofit and low carbon tech sector in the region by :

  • Developing of a supplier directory, providing opportunities for local installers to obtain work emerging from energy audit recommendations.
  • Creating a website to share available opportunities to quote for work and connect installers to other opportunities with partner programmes.
  • Supporting local installers with accessing training and skills procurement opportunities and business support in the region.
