A high-growth North East business has praised the resilience and flexibility of its North Tyneside team, after setting up its base as the pandemic hit.

Verisure, which opened up a new Centre of Excellence on Quorum Park in April following investment from the North of Tyne Combined Authority, has continued to recruit during the pandemic. It now has a 130-strong team now working from its Neon building, with plans to add at least 20 more roles before the end of 2020. The business has heaped praise on its newly appointed team, who – despite the challenges of COVID-19 and the lockdown measures in place – have continued to deliver ‘world-class’ service.

“Our move to North Tyneside was, in no small part, driven by the talented people who live in the area.  However, we could never have predicted the resilience we have needed to see from our staff, given the current challenges we all face,” said Kevin Croft, Site Director at Verisure.

“It has been quite something to see the way in which the team we have recruited has adapted so quickly to ensure we are still able to deliver excellent service and support to our customers.  We were convinced of the calibre of people in the area before our move, but their response to this situation – their flexibility and keenness to continue to drive the business forward – has absolutely confirmed that this was the right move for Verisure.”

Verisure’s North Tyneside Centre of Excellence will create more than 1,000 new jobs over the next ten years, with the company’s move to the region supported by Invest North East England and North Tyneside Council’s business investment team who were able to convince the company that Quorum Park was the best location for their new UK base. North of Tyne Combined Authority (NTCA) also provided Verisure with investment which helped secure its move to North Tyneside.

The company, one of the largest alarm system providers to residential and small business customers in Europe and Latin America, will be running a prolonged period of job-creation, which will be welcome news for those impacted by the pandemic.

Mr Croft added: “Thankfully, the pandemic has not slowed us, and we are on track to achieve our ambitions for 2020. We have put in place a raft of safety measures to ensure the office is a safe working environment for our team, and despite what’s going on, we have been able to very quickly establish a really positive, productive and secure working environment for everyone.”

Verisure was targeting the creation of 100 new jobs by the end of the year, but we have already surpassed that number, with at least 20 more agents set to join the business by 2021, as well as new roles in other back office functions.

North of Tyne Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and Deputy Mayor of North Tyneside Councillor Bruce Pickard said: “Verisure’s commitment to building the team here in North Tyneside is welcome news for people in the area and the team they have in place have demonstrated the focus, tenacity and drive that powers scores of successful companies in the borough. It’s unsurprising that hardworking people from this area, and the wider North East region, are showing the commitment and dedication that Verisure has observed – it’s something we know businesses here will recognise – and we’re delighted that the company is pushing ahead on track with its recruitment, which will help create jobs for people in and around North Tyneside.”

Jamie Driscoll, Mayor of North of Tyne Combined Authority, said: “We’re clear that North of Tyne is home to some of the most productive, loyal and flexible workers in the country.  Seeing that play out so clearly during this crisis really does demonstrate why this is such an investible part of the world.”

The business chose North Tyneside as its base after a competitive country-wide search. The move will see it gradually growing into the office, with an initial 34,000sq ft of space occupied by its team. Verisure has an 11-year lease on the premises.
