In December 2022 the government announced a devolution deal with North of Tyne Combined Authority (NTCA) and the seven constituent councils to form a new North East Mayoral Combined Authority.

Subject to parliamentary approval, which is expected in early 2024, an election will take place on May 2 next year and the new authority will form on May 7. You can find about more about this work on the North East Devolution website.

NTCA will end as an organisation on May 6 as well as the non-mayoral combined authority, the North East Combined Authority (NECA), which covers Durham, Gateshead, Sunderland and South Tyneside.

A draft budget for the new authority has been prepared, with investment plans designed for delivery of the portfolio activity being developed.

You can read the paper that introduces the draft budget and the interim corporate plan (Appendix A) which supports it. This was discussed at NTCA Cabinet on November 28 2023.
