Investing in the creation of three Community Partnerships with a focus on places with high levels of deprivation, low levels of civic action and an under-resourced VCSE Sector

North of Tyne Combined Authority are investing in the creation of three Community Partnerships with a focus on places with high levels of deprivation, low levels of civic action and an under-resourced voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector.

The Newcastle Partnership focuses on the Outer West, Inner West and North of Newcastle. The Northumberland Partnership focuses on Southeast Northumberland. The North Tyneside Partnership focuses on the North West of the borough.

Between October 2023 and March 2025 Community Partnerships will invest in activities that enhance social capital and civic action so that communities are:

  • more able to develop local solutions in response to needs and opportunities;
  • more resilient in the face of social and economic challenges;
  • better able to support a more inclusive economy where people can take advantage of economic opportunities through having access to strong, supportive and diverse networks.

Community Partnerships are co-ordinated by Local Authorities but driven by partners from multiple sectors. Each Partnership will have access to up to £1.5m to support activities that:

  • increase opportunities for people to come together to build strong and trusting relationships;
  • strengthen the capacity of VCSE sector organisations to meet the needs of the local community;
  • support the community to play a stronger role in shaping and making local decisions.

The Community Partnership initiative is funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The UK Shared Prosperity Fund is a central pillar of the UK government’s Levelling Up agenda and provides £2.6 billion of funding for local investment by March 2025. The Fund aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK investing in communities and place, supporting local business, and people and skills.
