The UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) was launched by government on 13 April 2022. Nationally, it provides £2.6bn of government funding between 2022-25 that is central to the Levelling Up agenda. The UKSPF is designed for local places to invest in three key themes:

  • Community and Place
  • Supporting Local Businesses
  • People and Skills

Crowdfund North of Tyne

North of Tyne Combined Authority

Crowdfund North of Tyne was set up by North of Tyne Combined Authority to give local people the opportunity to create and fund projects which celebrate and improve our local area.  Crowdfunding works by encouraging projects to raise a proportion of their funding via direct donations from local people, groups and businesses.  

It is an initiative which provides grants of between £1k and £30k to community groups, businesses, charities and individuals, to top up their crowdfunded projects. It will run until June 2025.   

Support for Rural Business

Northumberland Small Business Service

Delivered by Advance Northumberland, Northumberland Small Business Service will deliver a new programme of business support to help small and micro businesses across Northumberland to start and grow.

The Northumberland Small Business service consists of four key strands of programme delivery.

  • Growth and resilience support
  • Growth and resilience support (including farming advisory service)
  • Enterprise and start up support
  • NSBS Grant Fund

Funded by the North of Tyne Combined Authority, the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the Rural England Prosperity Fund.

Support for SMEs

The Business Growth Fund

The Business Growth Fund is a £3.5m programme of investment funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund that supports Business growth that supports business growth across the areas of Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council, North of Tyne Combined Authority, Sunderland City Council.

​The Fund is delivered by UMi and will attract £11.5m of private sector investment and aim to create a minimum of 268 new jobs in the areas.

This project is funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

High Streets Innovation Programme - Ashington (Accelerate Ashington)

North of Tyne Combined Authority

Accelerate Ashington is a brand-new package of support services available to local businesses currently trading and operating within Ashington. The programme consists of two elements:

Digital – Supporting existing businesses and working alongside industry experts. This support will provide funded access to the introduction of digital tools for day-to-day business activity including Digital Audits, Digital Marketing Campaigns and Website Capability.

Start-up – A programme of workshops covering the key skills individuals need to start and establish new businesses including organisational structure, finance and marketing.

Accelerate Ashington is fully funded by the North of Tyne Combined Authority.

Inward Investment

North of Tyne Inward Investment

We have £10m available to support businesses looking to invest and create jobs in the North of Tyne and may be able to contribute to up to 10% of your costs.

Grants are available between £100,000 up to a maximum of £1million for foreign or UK owned businesses making a first investment in the area.

 

North East Local Enterprise Partnership

The North East Local Enterprise Partnership (North East LEP) is a public, private and education sector partnership.

One of thirty-eight LEPs in the country, the LEP is responsible for promoting and developing economic growth in the local authority areas of Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland (North of Tyne), as well as County Durham, Gateshead, South Tyneside and Sunderland.
